PREVENTIVE HEALTH -
IT’S MORE THAN VACCINES
What is preventive health care for exotic pets?
Husbandry correction, vaccination, and diagnostic screening are all important parts of preventing and catching early health problems in your pet. Read about each below, then CLICK HERE to schedule a husbandry consult and wellness evaluation appointment with Dr. Wolk!
For all exotic pets, HUSBANDRY EVALUATION AND CORRECTION is the first and most critical step in providing what any animal needs to live a healthy life. Husbandry means diet, supplements, lighting, enclosure, temperature, humidity, substrate, and anything else in the animals daily environment. Exotics pets have unique husbandry needs, and pet stores often do not educate new pet owners well. Even tiny variations can result in development of acute or chronic health issues. Contact Kingdom Animal Hospital (below) to schedule a husbandry consult and wellness examination, so we can help ensure that your pet is getting everything they need, right from the start. See some examples of husbandry in different species:

Additional preventive health care recommendations may vary from species to species. See some examples below:
Foxes, raccoons, ferrets, and other mammals may benefit from VACCINATION against certain diseases. Did you know ferrets are legally required to be vaccinated against rabies in Michigan?

Birds and reptiles are specifically good at hiding illness, so FREQUENT DIAGNOSTIC TESTING is a critical mainstay in catching disease processes in early, treatable stages. This may include microscopic examination, bloodwork, and radiographs. We will provide a full explanation and cost estimate for specific testing panels recommended for your individual pet at your wellness examination and husbandry evaluation appointment. We offer mild (midazolam) to full (alfaxan +/ - sevoflurane) sedation as needed to provide your pet with a safe, low-stress diagnostic experience.
